Women working in male-dominated fields thrive when there is support for their growth. Being viewed as an asset is key, and allows women to be free to explore roles instead of participating in outdated and preconceived notions.

In this episode, I’m joined by Liz Luda. Liz is a mom, wife, and the anchor on the show Liz and Mike in The Morning on 105.1 The Buzz. She currently works for a female boss who is invested in and fosters her growth. Liz’s story is proof that while it is still rare to find female-friendly companies, it is possible.

I've been looking forward to having Liz on the show. The first encounter I’ve had with Liz was during the COVID crisis, when we teamed up to deliver community-made masks to the county. It was both fun and educational to have her on the podcast!

We talk about the limited job opportunities for radio talent, advice and tips on how to break in the industry, why hard work is necessary while chasing your dreams and much more.

Episode highlights:

  • Her childhood trauma and how it shaped her witty personality
  • How listening to the radio cheered her up as a kid
  • The value of having an organization supporting your role
  • The perks of having a female-friendly lady boss
  • Steps she took to pursue a career in radio
  • How job opportunities in radio are very rare
  • The importance of networking and being likeable
  • Preconceived notions of what females should do in her job
  • Her biggest cheerleaders and influences in life
  • The importance of a strong internal support system
  • How we set subconscious limits for ourselves
  • Misguided and unsolicited advice women often receive
  • How she deals with rejections and setbacks
  • Advice she would give to someone wanting to follow in her footsteps
